I learned that you don't have to go far to get away... for Wayne and I it was a chance to spend some quality couple time at a beautiful resort on the other side of town. Wayne has been working with the Wild Dunes Resort staff for several years and they were wonderful about offering us first class service and some wonderful extras!
I didn't take nearly as many pictures as I had planned to... hubby and I don't get much alone time and we got caught up in being together and unplugged from our daily lives... but I did manage to snap these of our hotel room:
The view from the balcony:
Based on a recommendation of a friend of ours we went out for dinner to Huck's Lowcountry Table. This is the view from the restaurant:
My meal - Seared Scallop Risotto with arugula, leeks, bacon lardons, and wild mushrooms
Wayne's meal - Pan Roasted 8oz. Beef Tenderloin, whipped Yukon Gold potatoes, sautéed spinach, caramelized onions, horseradish cream
A little more about our stay ... the resort is fabulous! We stayed in a penthouse room at the Boardwalk Inn, which is the main hotel inside the resort complex. The room was beautiful, well appointed and spacious! It was nice to be able to relax on the couch and watch the world go by... it was a little cold to go out on the balcony - but that was fabulous too! The staff, from the gentlemen who valet parked my car to the front desk staff and the room service employees who delivered a beautiful treat of wine, cheese, crackers and chocolate covered strawberries, everyone treated us incredibly well! My only complaint in the whole place was that they had a standard hotel bathtub - I would have loved to take a soak in a nice tub, but I probably wouldn't have had much time for that anyway... One of these days we'll have to book a longer stay at the resort - there's so much to do there and we barely scratched the surface with our one night's stay.
Dinner at Huck's was incredibly edible! On top of the mains that we remembered to photograph, we also had an appetizer of Goat Cheese Toasts and a yummy Apple Crisp that we forgot to capture. The view, as you saw was amazing and the company was spectacular of course... it was so nice to get to sit down in a restaurant and not have to worry about the kids behaving themselves. Our only complaint was that the server seemed to be distracted and not particularly pleased to be serving us. I think it had something to do with the fact that I brought a restaurant.com certificate with me - who wouldn't want to save some $ if they could ... Not only did she completely forget to take Wayne's drink order, but she went ahead and applied a tip for herself (which she has the right to do based on the clause in the restaurant.com cert) which I don't really begrudge, because it saved us even more money! We always tip on the full price of the tab before the discount and usually at 20-25% because we're getting a deal... she auto-tipped at 18%... I would definitely go back for the food at least one more time... and many times if I get better service the next time we're there...
