Together Counts - how do you make healthy family time count?

With Wayne's schedule getting more and more hectic as the semester nears an end, it's harder and harder to carve out family time, but we are committed to making sure that we get out as a family every weekend to keep everyone's blood flowing.... last week we combined the kids love of playgrounds with a lovely waterfront walk at Riverfront Park in North Charleston:

We're incredibly spoiled for fabulous parks here in Charleston - one of my favorites is another waterfront park - actually called.... Waterfront Park ;-)

and of course strolling along the beach:

Even if we can't get away from home, there is always something we can do as a family - like kick the soccer ball around or take the boys out on their trikes while we walk or jog beside them...

Honestly, I think that the most important thing about being active together is just committing the time to Just Do It!  And now there is a program that is dedicated to helping families do just that:
Together Counts is a nationwide program inspiring active and healthy living. The principle behind our program is Energy Balance, which means balancing the calories we consume with the calories we burn.
It’s a first-of-its kind coalition that brings together more than 195 retailers, food and beverage manufacturers, restaurants, sporting goods and insurance companies, trade associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and professional sports organizations.
Together Counts is holding a fun sweepstakes on their Facebook page at  to celebrate their first anniversary. Prizes include gift cards, George Foreman Grills and a membership to Anytime Fitness. You can also find Together Counts at https://twitter.com/#!/togethercounts and http://pinterest.com/togethercounts/

Another fun way to get more information is to join Together Counts as they celebrate Child Nutrition Month at a Twitter party on 4/3 from 8-9 PM EST. Prizes include $50 same-as-cash gift cards. For more information and to RSVP, visit http://resourcefulmommy.com/8856/together-counts-twitter-party/

I personally love that so many resources are coming together in one place to promote such an important topic and I encourage everyone to check out their website, social media or join the twitter party and share what you learn with your friends, readers and social network too!
