My Answers

1. What is the most interesting fact you have learned recently?
I get press releases related to Autism and this one caught my eye ... not sure it's a fact specifically, but I'm going to be interested in seeing what develops:
The Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) is pleased to announce that at the AME 2012 Excellence Inside International Conference in Chicago it will reveal the resulting hard work of its practitioners and autism experts who came together in a series of workshops using voice of the customer information (VOC) and applied 3P methodology to redesign Temple Grandin's Squeeze Machine for those with autism.  Temple Grandin’s life story was featured in the HBO movie, Temple Grandin, produced in 2010 featuring Emmy Award winning actress Claire Danes in the featured role.

The Squeeze Machine, sometimes also called a hug machine, provides deep touch stimulation and pressure which can produce a calming effect on hyperactive and autistic individuals. By allowing them to control the amount of pressure as well as the release of pressure, it is actively used as part of ongoing therapy.

“The machine was always very large, not very visually appealing and difficult to mass produce,” explains Ken Rolfes, an AME Board member and lead facilitator of the Squeeze Machine redesign effort. “In our workshops, we used collaboration and lean development skills to re-engineer a product that can be used in-home by more families and practitioners as well as be mass-produced more easily and at a better price point. The work we’ve done is going to benefit the autism community by making this device available to more people than ever before. Additionally, it showcases how lean innovation product development techniques can be used to improve products as well as manufacturing processes.”
2. The alarm goes off on Monday morning.  What is your first thought?
Wow, I to sleep all the way until the alarm...

3. What is the most memorable movie line of all time?
I don't know if it's the most memorable, but it is the most misquoted: "Play it, Sam'

4. Describe a situation that always seems to try your patience.
Lately it's been the midnight parties that my 2 year old holds... cause he can sleep in when I can't...

My 5th question this week is ...
